Hello and welcome to my new webpage!
I'm Just Micci and I'm an indie antifolk singer-songwriter.
Music has been a huge part of my life since before I can remember. I grew up in rural Nova Scotia and had a lot of time to explore my loves and interests without much distraction. My mother is a piano teacher so we always had anywhere between 1-3 pianos in the house at any given time. She also ran a youth choir and my grandmother is a dance teacher. They were both big influences in my musical journey.
I never remember my life being without music so I wanted to create a space in which I could share that with other musicians and music lovers.
I guess you can say my musical journey officially began at the age of 3 when I started learning to play the piano. I've never stopped musicking since. It's such a huge part of my life and the way I communicate. I joke that I'm better at writing songs than I am at talking. I use music to capture moments in time I never wish to forget and to try and work out and understand the more difficult moments. Music serves as a journal for me.
I always loved sharing the experience of music with others. I played in a lot of bands growing up with my brother: Jazz, swing, rock, folk, and random cover bands. They all influenced my writing a great deal. However it wasn't until much later I felt comfortable enough to put my music out there; it had made me feel too vulnerable. But over time people offered their love and support and my confidence with my writing began to grow. And now I'd prefer to share my experiences through song since so many of these experiences are universal. I feel it's the best way for me to invite you into my world.
It means so much to me that you are here and I'm so excited to have you join me on my music making/artistic journey!
